For the Engage Art Contest, we’re challenging our entrants to engage art, culture, and scripture. Through our mobile app, you’ll be immersed in scripture. Engaging art can be achieved in a variety of ways, but how can we engage with our culture? It’s a lofty objective, and it requires more than a simple blog can articulate, but a local city can help you engage with culture. Here is how the city of Charlotte can help inspire and motivate you for the Engage Art Contest.

Appreciate the Beauty of Nature

Yes, that photo is actually from a place in Charlotte! That’s at the McDowell Nature Preserve. Charlotte is a beautiful city in many ways. In particular, it boasts many impressive parks and nature preserves. You’ll have to venture a little outside of Uptown to reach those nature preserves, but there’s plenty of fantastic parks that can be found right near or inside the city. If you’re looking for a great way to find inspiration and connect with your city, spend the day at one of these parks and appreciate the beauty of it.

Consider bringing a group of creatives with you and see what kind of inspiration you can pull from nature. You could even spend time conversing with other people at the park and sharing stories. Hearing perspectives from people outside of your usual circle is a crucial way to engage with culture. Freedom Park is a popular destination for many in Charlotte and is a charming park.

Visit the Local Museums

Besides the pretty parks, Charlotte has plenty of museums for you to walk around and be inspired by regularly. To list a few, there is the Mint Museum Uptown, Levine Museum of the New South, and the Betchler Museum of Modern Art. These are just minutes from each other in uptown Charlotte, and there’s even more if you increase your scope.

Taking a break from your project and allowing yourself to be motivated and inspired by other local and national artists is an underrated way to spend your evening. During the Engage Art Contest, consider visiting each of the museums that Charlotte has to offer. Enter them with an open mind and think about what you could gain from their art and the city’s history.

Notice the Architecture

I’ve always been someone that appreciates the architecture of China and Japan, but Charlotte still has many impressive buildings that can be enjoyed. Take a look at some of the buildings uptown and contact the company about taking a tour. Sometimes these structures can be even more intricate on the inside.

If you can’t venture into the building, spend time walking around the city and appreciate the unique architecture that changes so much building to building. Similar to museums, this is a fantastic way to take a break while still gathering creative inspiration.

Work Outside Your Office

If you have a dedicated space for working on your art and routine work, it’s a great idea to get away from that from time to time. A new environment can be a breeding ground for new ideas. Consider spending time at a few of the local coffee shops that can be found all over the place uptown. Grab a cup of joe, tea or bring something from home and set up shop for a few hours.

You get to experience the culture of uptown while still getting important tasks done! NoDa is also a favorite part of town that is known for its creativity and artistic flair. Spend some time in parts of uptown that you normally wouldn’t so that you can be inspired by a new setting.

These are just a few simple ways that you can use the city of Charlotte to inspire your Engage Art project. Most metropolitan cities boast similar perks so you can use this guide for any local city. Regardless of what you do, remember to consider how you’ll engage with art, culture, and scripture!
