August 21, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

This month, we get to know Brian Mark, a New York City-based composer, pianist, and video artist. Brian’s music—mostly “new music”— has been performed by prestigious ensembles worldwide, including the BBC Singers, Psappha Ensemble, and Chelsea Symphony, among many others. Renowned festivals like Bang on a Can, Oregon Bach Festival, and London Contemporary Music Festival have featured his works.

You can watch on the Engage Art Facebook page, the EAC Artist Community Facebook group, or the Engage Art YouTube channel. You can also watch from backstage or in the conversation live.

London Jazz News praises Brian’s work as “compelling;” Boston Musical Intelligencer as “attractive and intelligible.” The New York Examiner recognizes him for preserving the vibrancy and relevance of contemporary art music. The American Composers Forum describes him as an “intelligent, modern composer” with a unique and deeply artistic approach.

In addition to his musical talents, Brian is also an accomplished visual artist, with his video installations exhibited in various venues and art galleries across France, the UK, and the US. His remarkable contributions have earned him numerous awards, grants, and residencies, including those from the American Prize, New Music USA, and the Grammy Foundation. Brian has also ventured into film composing, with that work showcased at international film festivals.

His debut LP album, “Eleven to One,” further establishing his mark on the contemporary music scene. Brian’s music video “Your Huddled Masses Yearning to Breathe Free” won an Honorable Mention for Original Sound Design in the 2022 Engage Art Contest Video Arts Category.
