This month, we’ll talk with Engage Art founder and serial entrepreneur Bill Bantz about how to succeed in business and ministry and why artists are valuable tools for God in today’s world.
Bill’s life story is a captivating journey that weaves together triumph, resilience, and a deep sense of purpose. It is essential to start the story understanding that it has held equal parts tragedy and joy. Born in 1944 in the Bronx, Bill’s life has taken three unanticipated and defining turns.
The first significant twist happened with his first breaths—his mother died in childbirth. Raised by his father, known as The Silver Fox, a beat cop in Washington Heights, Bill grew up in a blended family that instilled in him the values of hard work, perseverance, and embracing challenges head-on.
Bill is always early. This innate eagerness has been an essential characteristic of his life. As a teen, he used his older brother’s working papers to get a construction job on the lower level of the George Washington Bridge that spans the Hudson River. Working alongside these tough men doing hard work, Bill was energized by ending every day with tangible evidence of their combined efforts. He graduated high school at just 16 with a full academic scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh, where he studied civil engineering. By the time others his age started their college journeys, he had packed up his dorm room to take on real-world challenges with his bare hands.
