The dress I am wearing was the gown I bought to wear to Asbury University's Highbridge Film Festival- which unfortunately was switched to an online viewing. For my senior exhibit coming up in the fall at my university, I have been interested in doing various portraits of women in my life wearing long, flowing gowns. Quarantine has given me a unique opportunity even though I have always stayed away from being my own model for a long time due to insecurities and fear of being painted as narcissistic. To give myself practice I fought those insecurities and I am really happy with the outcome. While editing, I felt a sense of empowerment and appreciation for who God has created me to be and am excited for this newfound confidence.
Ephesians 6:10-20 talks about putting on the full armor of God daily and I feel I have failed that a lot in my walk. I often struggle with insecurities and listen to many voices- all of which are not the Voice of Truth. This past year I have been faced with many challenges but I turned to the bible and stumbled upon Lamentations 3:16-26 and that has become the Truth I cling to (or in context of Ephesians 6:10-20, my belt of truth). Insecurities, I think, are the loudest voices of the enemy that many fall victim to. When we remind ourselves of who we are and who we belong to, we can stand stronger, bearing the whole armor of God. When I graduated high school I got the tattoo on my forearm that says "priceless" as a constant reminder of the way God sees me but I have seem to forgotten that many times in my journey. Just like in picking up the full body of armor there are stages of choice and acceptance and these four images sort of embody that journey. This body of work, I hope, will inspire others to wear this belt of truth.
My dad and mom helped me set up the chair and camera. My dad also served as a test model in several of my shots to help me get the camera set up.
