Artist bio

I am Kadeelia Mitchell, from the small island of Jamaica. I am currently an Accounting Practitioner by profession. In my free time, however, I enjoy doodling and drawing. My love for art started at a young age. After graduating from high school, I stopped pursuing art due to a major exam disappointment. During this hiatus, I did graphic designing for others. It was only a couple years ago that I found myself drawing again. This time around, I am not so focused on results and acceptance, but rather the blessing of others with my artwork as God leads.

Artist Statement

This artwork represents the shield of faith that is able to quench the fiery darts as stated in Ephesians 6:16. In studying this verse, I realized that the shield is like the size of a door. The yellow section in the middle represents the cross and the red sections represent the blood of Jesus.

The three flamed darts represent the temptations from the devil while the smoky background is the enemy's scheme to blur our vision.

How it fits into contest

This work fits into the contest topic of "Spiritual Battle" as it relates to the aspect of Ephesians 6:16. It explains that the shield is able to quench the fiery darts of the evil one. These fiery darts stand as a metaphor for the struggles and temptations that Christians face daily. For example, suicidal thoughts, depression and lust are some issues that Christians face at different times.

It is important that when faced with the devil's schemes that we STAND with our shield of faith, which produces perseverance as mentioned in James 1:4 where it states, "...the testing of your faith produces steadfastness."

In addition, we must not open the door to everything; especially sin. Genesis 4:7 reads "If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.” This verse acts as a reminder to us that we must not waver or succumb to sin. Once we put our trust in God and ask for his help regarding the struggles, we must not doubt. James 1:6 describes a person who doubts as being "driven" by the wind. James 1:8 further states that such a person is "unstable" in all his ways.

In summary, once we take up our shield of faith in all situations, we can extinguish the flames of temptations and struggles thrown at us. Our faith will stand firm, once we fully trust in God, doubting nothing.
