Transcript / Lyrics

Jonathan is sitting in a chair looking down, without interacting with someone. While the rest of the people say goodbye to each other because the therapy session was over. The therapist says goodbye to his last patients at the door. Once the room is empty, he decides to speak with Jonathan.

Next to the door where the therapist is, there is a table with garbage. While he speaks to Jonathan, he begins to clear the table and ends his dialogue by sitting in a chair in front of Jonathan.

THERAPIST
"You finished?"
Turn and look at Jonathan, as there is no answer from him, the therapist starts to clean the table.

THERAPIST
"How long have you been coming here?" “2 weeks if I remember correctly; you don't talk or look with anyone and apart from your name, nobody else knows anything about you.”

He ends his dialogue when he sits in a chair in front of Jonathan.
Jonathan continues to look down without answering.

THERAPIST
"Jonathan please, I can't help you if you don't tell me what's going on."

Jonathan continues to look down without answering. The therapist breathes deeply, and acts more sincerely.

THERAPIST
“Jonathan, it would be much easier for me to tell my supervisor that all my patients are making progress, but I really want to help you, - Try to make a joke to cheer him up - anyway, I charge per hour, so someone has to make me a check for being here.

Jonathan smiles and the therapist is happy because he achieved his goal with the joke.

THERAPIST
“Yeah, finally I see you smile”

Once the barrier of silence between the therapist and Jonathan is broken, he decides to start with the questions with a smile on his face.

THERAPIST
“So…why are you here Jonathan?”

Jonathan decides to cooperate but still keeps his gaze down.

JONATHAN
“Apparently…I need to come here because I have a problem”

THERAPIST
“What’s your problem?

JONATHAN
“Is not a big deal, I just like beer a little bit.”

The therapist conveys empathy by feeling identified with Jonathan, for his taste in beer

THERAPIST
“Oh yeah, look Jonathan, I also like to drink 1 or 2 bottle during the weekend, - he gets serious - but you, you are here because of bad behavior because of intoxication, in other words, you have problems with alcohol.”
Jonathan looks down, and is upset about what the therapist said.

The therapist speak to him in a mean way, waiting for a reaction from Jonathan.'

THERAPIST
“Have you always been like this?”

Jonathan look up to confront the therapist and responds him rudely, but when he mentions his girlfriend he gets serious and looks down again.

JONATHAN
“I was a student once, had a job, even a girlfriend....alright”

THERAPIST
“Tell me about her” (with a smile in his face)

THERAPIST
“You just said you used to have a girlfriend, tell me about her.”
Jonathan responds him in a sensitive way

JONATHAN
“Doc. I would prefer not to talk about her”

The therapist becomes serious and speaks with sincerity.

THERAPIST
"Please Jonathan, I really want to help you"
Jonathan takes a deep breath.

JONATHAN
“She....we….. were happy, very happy.”

JONATHAN
“She always liked to help others, she used to work as a volunteer at a hospital and eventually she get infected by one of the patients, and things didn't go that well from then.”

Jonathan wipes the tears from his eyes and breathes deeply.

JONATHAN
“Still, I was fine.”

JONATHAN
“Eventually I started to skip work."

JONATHAN
"The worst part starts when I began to drink”

THERAPIST
"So what make you decide to come here?"

JONATHAN
"Yes, I just think that she would be mad at me if she sees me this way, crying all the time”

Jonathan smiles and the Therapist start clapping.

THERAPIST
“You just make more progress in these few minutes, than in the last 2 weeks..”

JONATHAN
“So? Can you change me?”

THERAPIST
“Jonathan, we don't change people, we just show them the path to change..

THERAPIST
“And if you let me Jonathan, I would like to help you.”

JONATHAN
“Yeah…..I would I like that ”
They both shake hands.
