How it fits into contest

Fighting our fears can be considered a battle we humans often face. This piece tells the story of one young boy's belief in his mother’s wise words, which inspires his creative interpretation of the armor of God to be used together with the word of God (Ephesians 6:10-11), to acquire the strength, determination and bravery to overcome his fears in the dark.

Joshua (V.O.)
My mother always said one way to overcome my fear is to put on the armor of God. And believe me tonight I was prepared in more ways than one.

We see a shot of fire from a stove burner. A pot is placed on the stove as a young boy Joshua looks on. He enters the Room equipped with a pot soon and pot cover in his hands, a pot on his head, and a colander hanging from a string over his chest. He looks around turns off the light then walks up to his bed and lies on it . He then looks around and closes his eyes. A loud scratching sound is heard. Joshua awakes out of his sleep. He immediately reaches for his bible and reads.

Joshua (V.O.) (In his thoughts)
Finally my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God that ye may be able to withstand the wiles of the devil.

He places the bible down then climbs off his bed. He slowly eases himself down at the side of the bed with his torch in hand and moves it left to right scanning through the darkness. He stops the light on the shoes. Realizing nothing else is there, he then stands up again and breathes a sigh of relief.
The sound is heard again. A bit startled, he slowly turns around and scans the room with his torch. He then moves in closer to the closet. He suddenly opens the closet door and raises the pot cover to shield himself.
A cat looks at him quietly then raises up and jumps down to the ground. He opens the door and lets the cat out the room, closes it back then closes the closet door. He then breathes a sigh of relief, then goes back to his bed and lies on it. He smiles accomplished and contentedly to himself.

Joshua(V.O.)
So my mother was right, it worked. I had nothing to fear or worry about.

A knock is heard on the door.

Mother
Joshua where are my kitchen utensils?

Joshua (V.O.)
Or so I thought.
