Artist Statement
A new experience in listening to positive affirmations. I merged my fascination with mellow music and my faith based background to create this tape. All the affirmations are rooted in scripture, for example the title of the track is inspired by Romans 12:2. Feedback from friends classify my music as "smooth, weird, futuristic, and R&B" which is the best way to describe it. The 5 track tape includes an instrumental, affirmation tracks, and a poem.
How it fits into contest
My music responds to Eph 6:10-20 by giving the believer and non-believer the truth of God's word to continuously listen to and affirm over their life. The scripture-based affirmations that are heard throughout the song allows the listener to combat against the evil spirits/powers that often travel through the music industry/radio waves. A major part of the armour of God is the sword of the spirit, which is God's word. With this song, the listener has access to the main weapon that scripture gives us in Eph 6:17.
My inspiration for this music was Joel 3:10 which is one of the scriptures where affirmations come from, "Let the weak say, I am strong." I believe that by affirming the word of God over the areas of our life where there are deficiencies, we can grow. For even Jesus had affirmations or "I am" statements. "I am meek and lowly in heart." My other inspiration is a genre of music called "chillhop"!
Renewing of mind gives me an outlet to listen to affirmations and "cool" music at the same time. Believe it or not, lyrics affect our spirits and minds which even ties into the spiritual warfare we are in everyday. Sadly the majority of music promotes Satan's Kingdom which is sex, violence, and drugs. I'm happy that I have "cool" music to listen to that will feed my spirit and mind the Kingdom of God.
