Artist Statement

In this video Joshua reflects on how he wasted so much time making bad choices as a teen, following the wrong crowd, being a drop out, drug addict, dealer, delinquent, and close encounters with death. For a while Satan had a hold on his soul, but through God’s mercy and the prayers of his family, God saved him through it all.

How it fits into contest

"I battle in myself, the war is real I tell ya/
I wrestle with my sins and struggle with my failures/"

The Bible says that we all fall short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23). Because of this, people around the world are wrestling with their failures and the demonic forces (Eph. 6:10-20) that come with them (depression, despair, suicide, etc.)

"And the darkness traveled just like an arrow and it pierce my soul/
My bones and marrow it tore apart, and it left me cold/"

"In a place with a gun on my waist with a voice in my head saying shoot it/
In a place where I fell from grace Lord please help me to get through it/"

Whether its failures in our careers, marriages, families or relationship with God, the truth is we all fail in this life. Failing to live up to all of these expectations can be disappointing but God is there to help us all. What we couldn't do Jesus did for us on the cross (John 3:16).

"And His light traveled just like an arrow and it pierced my soul/
But it healed my heart, it healed my mind and it made me whole/"

He died for our sins and has provided eternal grace for our constant failures. Therefore I rather boast in my infirmities (weakness/failures) than my strengths/achievements, that the power of Christ may rest upon me
(2 Cor. 12:9).

{Intro} (None)

{Chorus} Failure, Lord I’m sorry that I failed ya (x2)
New life for me (x3)
(Repeat hook)

{Verse}
Fallen, broken, messed up, torn down/
Shattered pieces, shot up, burnt down/
The outside is like a carcass/
The inside is filled with garbage/
So, with these rhymes/
I’m ma rewind/
And take you back to where it started/
Where my joy it became sadness/
My peace of mind became madness/
Day dreams became nightmares/
Silence became violence/
My heart it became hardness/
The hardness became stone/
The stone it became heartless/
And the heartless became darkness/
And the darkness traveled just like an arrow and it pierce my soul/
My bones and marrow it tore apart, and it left me cold/
But still I walk on this narrow road trying to succeed/
In this life for Christ, His promises my hopes and dreams/
What I really want but my mind is haunted just like a castle/
Everywhere I go man it seems to follow me like a shadow/
I battle in myself, the war is real I tell ya/
I wrestle with my sins and struggle with my failures/

{Chorus} Failure, Lord I’m sorry that I failed ya (x2)
New life for me (x3)
(Repeat hook)

{2nd Verse}
Yeah, I’m falling from bad choices/
Influences, bad voices/
Family members, fake friends/
It repeats in my mind all over again/
What I did, how I sinned, fell down and got scarred up/
Turned away, led astray from the truth and how I was bought up/
Never talk much but now I speak about it/
Jesus Christ yeah, I believe the bible/
Changed my life and now I speak about what He did, how He healed/
The darkness that was heartless/
The heartless that was stone/
The stone that was hardness/
And the hardness He made a heart again/
And His light traveled just like an arrow and it pierced my soul/
But it healed my heart, it healed my mind and it made me whole/
Now I’m forgiven but in my visions I’m still here/
Surrounded haunted by dead bodies where nothings living/
But through these lyrics the Holy Spirit is telling me/
To move on, you have to go, you have to leave/
(Repeat the last 2 bars)

{Chorus}
Failure, Lord I’m sorry that I failed ya (x2)
New life for me (x3)
(Repeat hook)

{3rd Verse}
Every time I come back, things are the same/
I say to myself, when will they change/
People I know, stuck in the past/
Don’t want to grow, don’t want to change/
Tired of living this life/
Tired of feeling this way/
All of my life when will things ever change/
Dear Lord, I pray/
Yeah, I fell down and got scarred up/
But a voice in my head saying get up, get up/
Jay, you got to get up/
I see a light that’s so clear/
I see it bright and it’s no fear/
I see a future so near/
A career in music but my mind is still here, here, here/
In a place in the valley, alley/
In a place in the gutter, gutter/
In a place where it lacks, and it keeps coming back in my mind it rewinds like a relapse/
In a place with a blunt to my face getting high, getting drunk, getting wasted/
In a place where I’m starring at myself like a mirror but its hard for me to face it/
In a place with a gun on my waist with a voice in my head saying shoot it/
In a place where I fell from grace Lord please help me to get through it/

{Outro}
Failure, Lord I’m sorry that I failed ya (x2)
New life for me (x3)
(Repeat hook)
