Artist bio

I was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio in 1982 and currently live and work in Cibolo, Texas. I am a U.S. Army veteran and am in the process of earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Texas at San Antonio in San Antonio, TX. My artwork is known for its highly faith-based narratives and controversial subject matter. I am a passionate lover of Yeshua (Jesus); I am by no means perfect but I know who I am in Christ and it is my ultimate goal to recede into the background while Jesus comes through to the forefront. I believe that God speaks across all languages and platforms--mine just happens to be art.

Artist Statement

This artwork speaks to our identity in Christ; Ephesians 6 tells us to "stand". It is our mandate in this thing called spiritual warfare. Jesus conquered every opposition we could ever face through His death and resurrection. We are now "seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus" (Ephesians 2:6), which means He has given us everything we need to stand while He fights the battle for us. The woman in my drawing represents the remnant (Christ's bride). The sword she holds in her right hand symbolizes the Word of God (Hebrews 4:12) and the shofar she holds in her left hand symbolizes the very breath of YHVH. The gold that she wears around her waist and on her head is symbolic of the "testing of our faith" (1 Peter 1:7). The reflection in the dragon's eyes tells us that we are never alone in the fight.

How it fits into contest

This drawing fits in with the contest topic because it gives the viewer a glimpse behind the veil into the spiritual realm. If we could only see the battle from its spiritual perspective we would know that one, it is real-more real than what our natural eyes see and two, Jesus Christ has given us all authority--His authority--over all the schemes of the enemy. Our only obligation is obedience; we were commanded to "submit ourselves to God. Resist the devil and he will flee..." (James 4:7).
