Title

"Omnipotent Spiritual Warfare"

Medium/Genre

Mixed Media

Artist Statement

This work is a mixed media painting. I am usually an oil painter but I am transitioning into mixed media painting. This piece was sketched out with pencil, then first layered with acrylic markers and water-soluble crayons. Next, it was layered with acrylic paint and finally it was layered with oil paint. Gold leaf was also added in certain areas on top of the acrylic layer before adding oil paint.

How it fits into contest

My work is a depiction of how I believe God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are present in our spiritual battles. Even though we can't see them and sometimes we can't feel their presence they are always present. They love and care for us so much that they don't want us to fall into sin. This is why they gave us the 'The whole armor of God.' God has given us these weapons of the spirit to fight off the temptations, trials, and lies of the devil that come our way. In times like these it is reassuring to know that even when we are weak and feel incapable, God has given us these weapons and He is with us through it all. It is amazing to know that the omnipotent God is always with us and He cares about our struggles.

"We are humans, but we don't wage war as humans do. We use God's mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 NLT

This verse fits well with my work because in Ephesians 6:18-20 Paul is talking about boldly spreading the gospel to the unknown. This is why I decided to add the fishers of men symbol to signify the importance of telling others about Jesus. The power God has given us with these spiritual weapons makes it possible to do this.
