The Fortified House

Artist Statement

To portray my definition of the Armor of God, I have built a house with pages of an old Bible. The contrasting background is to emphasize how the Armor of God is present day and night to protect us during our battles. In addition, Ephesians 6:12 is written using stars in the sky to emphasize that our battles are not easy and that we must rely on God to succeed.

How it fits into contest

The pandemic had shattered my hard-built armor and pierced my soul. Every day felt like torture and the only reason I was alive was because I did not believe I had the right to die. Afterall, compared to most people, my life has been almost perfect. My hardworking parents have made sure that I grew up with plentiful food, a warm house, and love; however, despite how blessed I have been, I always felt weak, unworthy, and lost. I tried desperately to fight my fears and troubles, but no matter how hard I fought, I never was winning. Thankfully, God has shown me through scripture and prayer that the battle I am in, is not a battle I can fight unequipped. The only way I can endure and succeed is to rely on God and seek guidance every single moment of the way.

In my heart, the Armor of God is like a house. A house is a place where we rest, strengthen, and prepare ourselves for our daily battles no matter how incalculable and terrifying our lives outside can be. No matter who you are or what you did, a house will welcome and protect you the same way it did yesterday and the same way it will tomorrow. Thus, in a way our house is our Armor, but we must remember an armor built from Earthly things will not be sufficient to shield us because our battle is not that simple: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 6:12).” Thus, we need a stronger armor, an armor fortified with God’s Word where He guides, strengthens, and protects us. So always believe and remember, no matter how hopeless and petrifying our battles are, if we believe and ask, God will help us win.
