Artist Statement

“A string of desire, connected hope”

“Here and now, you are supremely sad, but paradoxically that is why you are so full of joy.”

The artist has been presenting works that reinterpret the Bible for a long time. For the artist, the Bible is not the scripture of a particular religion. Rather, it is a book that is too lively and full of vitality to be confined to the framework of a particular religion. For the artist, reinterpreting the Bible through his work is ultimately about thinking about what a human being is. The characters of the Bible seen through the eyes of the author have one thing in common, transcending time and space.

“Humans are weak beings that can tremble even in the wind blowing from somewhere, but When he has cherished goals and will in life, he is stronger and more creative (great) than anyone else.”

Each life has its own path, and the journey is intertwined with chance and inevitability. Along the way, we often encounter two forked paths and enjoy the trembling freedom of making choices. Sometimes we are tempted by certain objects, or we desire certain objects. Human beings dream of something that captures the spirit, blindly give love, get hurt, and get caught up in anger and despair.

It is by no means easy to live in the face of an unpredictable and huge world of life. Sometimes, life loses its vitality as it is engulfed by the unknown deep emptiness and helplessness.

So here and now, we need the courage to accept uncertainty on the spot. Because you can't stay where you failed. Numerous characters appearing in the Bible face life with the courage the artist speaks of in spite of failure and despair. These figures, seen through the eyes of the artist, are not sleeping in the past history. It is still alive and breathing with us.

-To have the courage to make choices that are human-like, like myself, the things I desire in life.
-To be able to resist and fight against the things that try to ruin me in order to live my own life.
-To be able to dream of a society where people can live like human beings.
-That we can create a society in which people become ends rather than tools.
-Being able to practice love that requires patience and sacrifice.
-That we can cast off the sunglasses of prejudice and discrimination and live together.
-Humans are beings that will someday return to dust, but they are beautiful beings that can think about eternity.

In the artist's work, the sign of courage is a fish. Inspired by his memories of a dead fish he saw in his childhood, the artist began to paint fish repeatedly. The artist actively embraces the fish that symbolizes vitality in her work, hoping that the things she desires in life become human-like and self-selective choices. In a world full of sorrow and pain, it is nonetheless telling that human beings are hope.

How it fits into contest

My art work was inspired by the story of Eve and the Serpent in Genesis. Eve was swayed by the serpent's temptation to eat fruit of the Tree of Knowledge and ate the fruit. She was her free will and her choice. I want to talk about the direction of that free will here. In each life given to Christians, we will live with a desire for something. I pray that that desire is a good desire. It takes courage to have good desires.

- To have the courage to make choices that are human-like and self-righteous in the things we desire in life.
- Being able to resist and fight against things that try to ruin me in order to live my life as I am.
- Being able to dream of a society where people can live like human beings.
- Being able to create a society in which people become ends rather than tools.
- Being able to practice love that requires patience and sacrifice.
- To be able to cast off the sunglasses of prejudice and discrimination and live together.
-Humans are beings that will someday return to dust, but they are beautiful beings that can think about eternity.

In Ephesians 6:10 it says, “Be strengthened in the Lord by his mighty power.” we must keep the word in your heart. For the love and peace that Jesus had seen in his life, he resisted those who ruined it. we must pray and raise our voices for those who are still grieving, marginalized and oppressed.

The fish bears the symbol 'ἰχθύς', in Greek in Christian history.
The fish is a sign of the Son of God, the Savior Jesus Christ. In it life and love, It contains freedom and peace, sharing and consideration.

The present age is filled with sadness and anxiety rather than joy.
I pray earnestly today that we will follow the spirit of Jesus to pray and act so that the fire of love may not be extinguished in the world.
