Artist bio

’m a contemporary realist, inspired by the classical realism of still life and portraiture. The craftsmanship of painting is very important to me. The paintings I create are a result of years spent honing my artistic skills, and studying techniques of past artists, as well as contemporary artists. I’m currently studying painting and printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to this, I studied art at the Center for the Arts at Henrico High School. Throughout the years I have acquired several artistic accolades. I aim to promote diversity in art canon, specifically focusing on the black experience. One of my goals is to promote community engagement in the arts and better the community with my talent.

How it fits into contest

My painting is depicting the beauty and bond between Mary and her son. I believe that the strength of their union helps people be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Therefore it allows them to put on the full armor of God, so that they can take their stand against the devil’s schemes.
