The Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, is our only offensive weapon in our spiritual armour according to Ephesians 6:17. The Word of God is Jesus Christ. It is only through him that we have any hope to stand against evil.

In this painting the needle (surrounded by light) represents the Sword of the Spirit, which is Jesus Christ. It is only through his blood (red), that covers us (the string), that we can be brought out of the darkness and into his light. He lovingly takes us up from the messy heap of our lives, and weaves us into his story, so we become one with him (pattern). We only see fragments of the story, but, as the author says in the poem, The Weaver, He (Jesus) sees the ‘upper side’. He redeems us through his blood so we become new creations in him. It is only by God’s mercy and grace that we have been saved through Jesus Christ. He, (who is Commander of Heaven’s Armies), alone fights our battles against the rulers, the authorities, the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. We will have trouble in this world, but if we pray in the Spirit and arm ourselves in the Word of God, we will stand strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
