ENGAGE ART

Questions and Answers

What Is the Information and Timeline for the Engage Art Contest?

The 2022 Contest is currently closed to submissions.

The Engage Art Contest has been in existence since 2018, when we ran a pilot program in North and South Carolina. Our 2nd contest, for all of North America including the Caribbean, was open for submissions from June 2019 to May 2020, and winners were announced in late 2020. Our current contest is open internationally. Stay tuned for information about the 2022 Contest Winners!

Our future plans for the contest are not yet firm, but we hope to continue this work and ministry for many years to come. So far, our contests are open for submissions for about a year of every two-year cycle.

Does My Entry Have to Be My Original Work?

Yes. The artwork you submit must be your own original work, created solely by you and your team.

It may not:

  • be a copy of someone else’s work.
  • include material that is copyrightable by anyone else except as allowed under the “Fair Use Doctrine.”

You are solely responsible for any copyright infringement. We reserve the right to request proof that your entry is your original artwork created solely by you.

If you use elements that are not your original work, you must have written permission from the copyright holder to use them for this purpose, and you must include that permission when you submit. For instance, if you make a video that tells a story or a video of a dance, you will probably include some music. Did you or a member of your team write and perform the music? If not, you need the permission of the copyright holder. There are several online sources for music that can be easily licensed or are free to use through the Creative Commons license, such as:

Is There an Entry Fee? How Do I Enter for Free?

No. Each Entrant may submit up to one (1) entry in each of the two categories—Visual Art and Video Arts (which includes music video, film, performing arts, etc.)—for free.

What Scripture Is the Inspiration for Engage Art?

Ephesians 6:10-20:

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

How Will My Work Be Judged?

Jurying will be in two parts:

Part 1: On a rolling basis, the EA Staff will identify artworks that satisfy the entry requirements of the contest. These artworks will be given a place in our online gallery.

Part 2: Juries will consider all the artworks added to our gallery during this contest and rate them based on... See full Jurying Criteria.

How Many Works of Art Can I Enter?

You may enter one piece of artwork in each category. Engage Art reserves the right to cap the number of entries—per person and for the contest as a whole—at a future date.
