Sarah Hempel Irani has been sculpting figures in clay for twenty years, creating sacred and public art that evoke a spiritual response and celebrate what it is to be human. Her most notable work is two larger-than-life Carrara marble sculptures of the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Potomac, Maryland. Sarah has contributed sculpture to national shows and received several awards, including a Maryland Arts Council Individual Artist Award. She is currently working on a larger-than-life size bronze sculpture of American designer and fashion icon, Claire McCardell.
