Making art is expressive and expansive, ushering the artist into a world of rich and unspoken experiences. It is a spiritual endeavor that can honestly probe the depths of of who we are and why we are here. It is a joy to work with materials and the gifts God gives to produce something of beauty. These are some of the reasons I love being an artist!
Sharon B. Parker has been a Christian for 40 years and a professional artist for 26 years. A wonderful husband and son are her biggest supporters. She is a longtime resident of Virginia and earned a Fine Art and Education degree from The College of William & Mary. From 2010 to 2016, Sharon and 9 other artists were privileged to co-found and run New Town Art Gallery where she exhibited and sold her art. They also partnered with a local non-profit at every new art reception to give back to their community. It was a fantastic experience that Sharon is so grateful to have had from the Lord!
Teaching has been a big part of Sharon's art career. Sharon taught art at Williamsburg Christian Academy for Kindergarten through AP Art for many years, and treasures the students that touched her life there. Concurrently, she exhibited and taught for many years at Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center. While there, Sharon and Shirley Roby ran an Open Studio. She still teaches youth and adults in private lessons.
Sharon's artwork is in many private and corporate collections both locally, regionally, and nationally. Through a wealth of art workshops and experiences, she continues to learn and grow in this wonderful gift and passion of art!
