The flowing fields of green and earthy brown symbolize the pressures, uncertainties, and hardships that shape every human life. These colors move with tension and weight, evoking seasons of struggle that cannot be avoided, only passed through. Within these turbulent forms appear small human figures—fragile yet unbroken—positioned as if within a protective sphere. They represent the soul held steady amid adversity, not removed from hardship, but safeguarded within it.
Running continuously through all three panels is a golden line—an unbroken lifeline. This thread signifies the living connection with God: Christ’s strength infused into human weakness. It does not straighten the path or remove the fractures, but it creates space within them—room to endure, to remain whole, and to move forward with confident peace.
The triptych format emphasizes progression rather than resolution. Each panel is a moment within one journey, echoing Paul’s declaration that true sufficiency is found not in circumstances, but in Christ Himself. Philippians 4:13 has long been a deeply formative Scripture in my spiritual life and creative practice. I am especially drawn to its fuller meaning—that Christ’s strength does not promise ease or the removal of hardship, but rather the inner capacity to endure, remain faithful, and fulfill God’s purpose within difficult circumstances.
When the apostle Paul declares, “I can do all things through Christ,” he speaks from a place of lived experience—contentment in lack, perseverance in pressure, and peace amid uncertainty. This understanding shaped the foundation of this triptych. I approached the work not as an expression of victory over struggle, but as a meditation on presence within it. The Scripture reframed my focus away from human self-sufficiency toward Christ’s sufficiency at work within the believer.
Throughout the creative process, I reflected on how divine strength often manifests quietly—creating inner space rather than outward resolution. This is echoed in the visual language of the work: the figures are not removed from turbulent surroundings, but held within them. The continuous golden line emerged as a response to the Scripture’s promise of empowerment—Christ infusing the human spirit with strength, peace, and readiness for what lies ahead.
Philippians 4:13 also challenged me personally as an artist to trust the process itself—to create without striving for control or certainty, relying instead on faith, obedience, and attentiveness. In this sense, the artwork became both a response to Scripture and a lived practice of it.
This passage continues to affirm that true strength is not measured by circumstances, but by communion with Christ, who sustains and equips us for every season.
