This is a sketch that I've recently made, inspiried by a photograph of Jess Glynne.
It was made with coloured pencils, as an experiment (I usually do oil paintings and pen drawings).
It focuses on Gnostic Christian themes, the supposed 'dualism' between Light and Darkness. It includes quotes from the ancient text "Pistis Sophia". Translation by G.R.S Mead. Ch.30:44, ch. 32:47&48.
On the top it is written in ancient Greek "The Ineffable", out of which the Light spreads out.
"Tell the truth but tell it slant" is convenient for this drawing.
In 1 Cor. 3.2 we read: "I have given you milk to drink, not solid food/meat, for ye were not ready, and still ye are not ready".
This drawing is not for milk drinkers in the faith. The symbolism and text comes from what were considered (by ruling powers of this world) the heretical sects called the Gnostics - those who believed that 'Gnosis' (spiritual knowledge) leads to salvation. The Gnosis which the saviour Jesus Christ gives to his disciples.
Pistis Sophia (πίστις σοφία in ancient Greek), literally "Faith Wisdom", was perhaps a symbol for the fallen human soul which incarnates in the physical body. In the writings with the same name, Mary Magdalene and other disciples ask questions to Jesus, after the time of his resurrection, and they are given mystical and secret instruction on the constitution of the world and on salvation. Pistis Sophia seems to be the main character.
Here are some quotes included in the drawing: "... when she sang praises to the region of the height [...] all the rulers in the 12 aeons, who are below, hater her, because she had ceased from their mysteries, and because she had desired to go into the height and be above them all." "And Pistis Sophia cried out most exceedingly, she cried to the Light of lights which she had seen from the beginning, in which she had faith [...] uttered this repentance: 'O Light of lights [...] hearken now then [...] Save me, O Light, for evil thoughts have entered into me'." "And when I looked unto the height, I saw all the rulers of the aeons [...] I had done them no ill; but they hated me without a cause."
