The artwork is the crucified hand of our Lord and Savior. A lot of us have heard about what the Lord went through on the cross; however, we often forget what the Lord did for us by the actions we display in our everyday lives.
The ESV Study Bible states, "crucifixion was the worst way to die in Christ's day, and there were stories of Roman soldiers cruelly playing with different postures for crucified victims."
While creating this picture, my heart was heavy because I was thinking about the many sins I and the world continue to commit, deliberately disrespecting the selfless, loyal, and willing sacrifice of our Lord and Savior.
While putting pencil, pen, and color on paper, I started the process of this picture with a simple hand. Then, from there, I thought of the pressure and pain, making the veins pop, and the blood of our Savior pour out for the wrong we choose to do deliberately. After completing Christ's hand, the Holy Spirit said, 'Put the words' I Did This For You' in the middle of the hand for all who see the picture. '
My wife suggested the verse Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV), and she wrote the verse on the side of the picture. Lastly, the Spirit said," Add REMEMBER? At the top of the image. The word REMEMBER speaks volumes to me, as it reminds me to keep walking with the Lord daily and stay focused, prayed up, and equipped with the whole armor of God every day.
The verse my wife and I selected was Isaiah 53:5, "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed."
The image depicts the time when Christ died on the Cross for our sins. The verse says, "He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities... When I think of the transgressions and iniquities of my life and of this world, many times they are not mistakes made of unknown occurrences. Christ knew we would continue to disrespect Him even after His sacrificial offering.
Christ's love is on display for all to grab hold of, even after His Father chastised Him, and the Father could not look on His only Son for the peace and second chance of sinful man.
The last sentence in this verse tells me the hedge of thorns put on Christ's head, the beard pulled out of His face, the spit that ran down His face, the mighty blows he received to His face and body, the metal whip that ripped his flesh to pieces, the nails in His hands and His feet, and the piercing of His side all reminds me to not sway to the right or left. The verse says, Christ went through all of this for you and me, so now what will you do with all that I have done for you?
The image and verse serve as a reminder of how Christ was accused of wrongdoing, yet committed no wrong, gave His life up for sinful man, in his evil, selfish ways, tried to destroy the Savior, whose only aim was to give sinful man eternal life with Him forever.
My wife, Daniele Leah Mason, and the Holy Spirit assisted me in creating this artwork.
