Artist bio

I am grateful for the opportunity I've had to work as a mosaic artist for over 30 years. I have been sharing my art through private commissions and facilitating large scale community mural projects since 2004. Since 2011, it has been my joy to work as the Art Director for the Art from the Heart studio working with special needs adults in the Chicago area. I cherish God's presence and direction in my process and desire and pray for his Kingdom impact as I work with my community.

Artist Statement

Now more than ever, I am deeply compelled to focus my work on illuminating Scripture and Biblical themes that reflect God's profound love, wisdom and hope of Salvation and how I both wrestle with and abide in my relationship with Christ. Creating art engages me in a kind of transcendent dimension I describe as “luminously divine.” It's precious time I'm called to spend with the Lord that is pure, true and in the moment. It's a heavenly experience allowing me to let God take control of the outcome for His purposes. What a delight this is! In addition, I am experimenting with new materials and techniques to bring a heightened level of texture, depth and visual storytelling to my work. A mosaic’s unique materials and techniques are key to elucidating the work's meaning and its power to connect with the viewer.

How it fits into contest

“The Light shines on in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1: 5 The things of the world - our self-focus, worldly desires and materialism - comfort and caress us, cajole and charm us and take us away from knowing the true Light. With these distractions, we stay stuck in darkness, unaware of what true hope and salvation can bring. But the Light of Life is always shining if one opens their heart to truly SEE~ This mixed media work is designed to let the inherent beauty of glass and paint shine, creating a powerful and dynamic dialogue between Light and darkness.
