Bio

Hello,

My name is Farrin Chwalkowski. I’d like to sumbit my artwork for consideration.

I have a BSc in Geography and Urban Planning along with an MSc and PhD in Architecture. My Master and PhD thesis were focused on art and design. I’m teaching art history and design for more than 8 years.
I am currently teaching at School of Visual Art, NYC. I also taught at The Rhode Island School of Design for four years (2012-2016) in the department History of Art and Visual Culture. I taught many art and design courses in Malaysia and Iran. Also, taught at St. Johns university, and New York City college of Technology.

Recently published my book; “Symbols in Arts, Religion-Culture: THE SOUL OF NATURE. It is an extensive research book about various symbols and elements that many of us observe in our environment and use in our art and design.

Academic work comes first for me but I also love to design and paint, in particular carpet pattern. I was born and raised in a small town at Northeast of Iran. I always had big dream, so I had to work since I was 12 years old. I started to design carpet when I was 13 years old (there wasn’t any type of copy machine so I created my own lightbox to copy more of my design for the carpet weaver). I designed carpet and also learned to weave carpet. This work helped pay for my advanced education and big dreams.

My design work inspired by religion, nature, culture, life's experience and interests so, in a sense, it is autobiographical. They are very educational and following the life concept and symbolic meaning. There is a poem for each artwork.

As an artist I had several exhibitions and lectures, include the solo show in November 2013 at Harvard University and the one at 2015 Faculty Biennial, Rhode Island School of Design.

You will find a link to my artwork in this website: http://fazarts.com/paintings-dream/
My design work can be a unique addition to the show. It would be an honor and a lot of fun to share my work. Thank you for considering me. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Farrib Chwalkowski
