MINDMAZE conceptual shortfilm / video art / performance art (BreakDance) /music video
Was originally conceived between Marcelino and Nereo doing a social work project within the Manitoba youth Centre - maximum-security detention in Winnipeg.
Both artists knew they wanted to convey a few things within a video art project. Firstly, what is the battle one faces between man-made and spiritual evil that dwells within the heart, which poisons the mind (MINDMAZE). Acknowledging the struggle through grace of feeling Divine intervention of the creator and fighting back, eventually returning to innocence.
The piece was also intended to act as reference point between various artistic inspirations - via Visual art, literary art, film and music to accurately express where Marcelino’s original dance movement has been derived and manifested from.
This piece was not created for commercial use, and acknowledges the use of its music respectfully in the edit and descriptions on the Vimeo platform. Rather it is a discourse into the psychology of catharsis, the spiritual struggle within the human condition and the liberation through Trial and faith.
The MINDMAZE piece was filmed over two days within York University in Toronto Canada.
Marcelino DaCosta is an accomplished professional artist and dancer of over 20 years based in Mississauga Ontario. His work consists of world-class art education, performance, keynote speaking, poetry, music and storytelling.
Nereo Eutgenio is a internationally known multifaceted professional artist based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba. His work revolves around the creation of high level realism and surreal paint murals, film, dance, rap and music recording.
MINDMAZE is the epitome of contemporary man’s spiritual battle which is found in Ephesians 6:10-20.
The art piece follows its character through flashbacks of regretful pain in facing and failing against his darker influences within worldly and societal nature. The manifestation of evil in his life has shattered his mind (MINDMAZE). During his internal battle which is depicted through an epic dance and life reference, does the character find divine intervention and salvation. Through reflection and the re-appropriation of his helmet (headwrap), sword and Armor of God, is he able to unify his holistic nature, and truly protect himself with readiness as a divine solider - eventually experiencing divinity through catharsis, prayer, surrendering and humility; releasing him from the chained MINDMAZE and symbolically offering up his divine weapons to others who would need the means of freedom and peace.
