In an effort to engage the viewers with my aspen painting, I tried to capture the beauty and vibrancy of colorful Fall aspen trees using an impasto technique. The paint is applied thickly to the canvass, in the technique, creating visual palette knife strokes of bursting color in the leaves. This creates a three-dimensional textured effect giving the tree trunk depth and volume. The artwork shows luminosity by catching light and casting shadows at the same time. This allows my painting to convey emotion and movement of the branches. As the painting dries, it also provides a touchable sculptural surface.
There was a moment of reflection when I realized Gods glory and how trees seem to reach toward the heavens. They are almost praising God as the connected root system of aspen trees provide a strong foundation of Gods trust. The growth of this trust can be found in the whitish tree trunks stand strong towards the sky. The connecting branches can be heard in song as they connect as well as the quaking flutter of the leaves.
As found in Isaiah 55:12, "For you shall go out with joy, and be lead out with peace. The mountains and the hills will breakout before you into singing; and all of the trees of the field will clap their hands."
This painted breathtaking display of the vibrant Fall leaf color against a deep blue sky remind us of Gods celebration of joy and peace. The bible passage in Isaiah honors God as He provides wind as a way for the branches to clap together in joy!
