My artwork covers a wide variety of concepts and themes ranging from still life to abstract impressionism. My work is inspired by God – from His character to His beautiful creations – and oftentimes, my art is a portrayal of my own prayers. Throughout my creative process, I constantly step back to ensure that the proper theme and emotions I desire to evoke are still coming through the piece. Sometimes I approach a certain section or the entire piece without expectation of the outcome and then grow with the piece it becomes more realized. My primary desire is for God to use my artwork to bless others, especially by bringing hope, love, joy, comfort, peace, encouragement and inspiration.
In Matthew 5:13, Jesus tells the disciples they are the “salt of the earth.” The question is not if God will use believers to salt the earth. God desires to and will use believers to bring restorative life and preserve the good while the days grow darker; however, the question is whether the salt – His Church – has strong flavor and efficacy. May those believers who have grown a little stale be renewed to a fresh state of salt again. May all believers also show no partiality to whom they salt with flavor and restoration. In this painting Salt Of The Earth, the many colors of God’s hand allude to the beautiful fact that He shows partiality to no man (Romans 2:11) and that all are equal in God’s kingdom (Galatians 3:28). What a great privilege and responsibility to be called the salt of the earth and to live out Jesus’ great commission to go to all the nations (Matthew 28:19-20).
I created the piece Salt Of The Earth for a 2023 exhibition in Denver with the group Christos Collective. If not for joining Christos Collective, this piece would not exist. Thank you to the members of Christos Collective who have all helped me grow as a Christian and an artist.
