I recently finished a series of paintings on the armor of God. As I was studying about the shield of Faith in how it reflects against the fiery darts of the enemy, I saw the need to illustrate the shield of faith for the family. I personally have seen and experienced how Satan attacks the family and seeks to destroy each one. As I prayed over this particular piece, the LORD laid on my heart to paint a young family in my church and show how God's Word should be the center of the family.
Before I started to paint on the canvas, I physically wrote 39 passages of Scripture all over the canvas. Each passage that was written reflected the family, whether it was the whole family, or individually reflecting the spouses', parents', and children's roles in the family. I then covered the canvas with black acrylic paint and then painted fiery brushstrokes to represent the enemy trying to cause division and chaos in the family. I did the rest of the painting in oil paint.
I have the family looking at the Bible to represent that it should be the center of the family. Reading it acts like a shield around the family as light shines out of the Bible going around the family. I painted the Bible a deep red to represent Christ's blood redeeming each of us. This painting represents bathing the family in God's Word.
The painting measures 24"x36",
"And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up." Deuteronomy 6:5-7
This painting depicts a family choosing to teach their children daily from God's Word. The parents are displaying their love for the LORD their God, by reading, talking, walking and continuing to show His faithfulness to a new generation. Throughout God's Word we see His promises which gives us that unshakeable belief. His Word needs to be in the center of our lives. Not just sitting on a shelf or table for decoration. We personally need to be reading it and with our families. We can resist the enemy and remain steadfast in the faith, when we stand strong in the LORD, be in His Word daily, and to love Him with all our heart, soul. and might.
I want to acknowledge my LORD as He guided each step of this process and taught me so much through this journey, of creating this piece. I would also like to thank Chad and Tiffany Fields with their little family for being the models for this painting.
This painting is not for sale.
