This piece is inspired by Proverbs 24:16: “For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.”
The ocean felt like the most honest place to explore that idea. Waves knock things down without malice, storms come and go, and falling is simply part of the rhythm. What matters is not avoiding the fall, but the steady, hopeful return to the surface - to God.
Through this comic artwork, I use a humpback whale and motion to reflect resilience in a way that feels accessible and human. The sea becomes a metaphor for life’s setbacks—sometimes overwhelming, sometimes quiet—but never final. Rising again is not portrayed as dramatic triumph, but as persistence: swimming, surfacing, continuing.
As a storyteller and comic artist, I’m drawn to moments of recovery more than perfection. Proverbs 24:16 reminds us that faith and growth are not measured by flawlessness, but by the courage to rise again, even after repeated falls. This work invites viewers—especially younger ones—to see resilience as something lived, not achieved, and to recognize hope even in deep waters.
Proverbs 24:16 says, “For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.” I chose this passage because it names something deeply human: falling is not a failure, it is part of the journey. What defines us is not how often we stumble, but our willingness to rise again.
In my artwork, the ocean becomes a visual metaphor for this truth. The sea is unpredictable and powerful—sometimes calm, sometimes overwhelming. The whale is pushed by waves, pulled under, or knocked off balance, yet the rhythm of the water always allows for resurfacing. Falling is expected; rising is essential.
