Artist bio

I am a multimedia artist who works intuitively, allowing each piece to unfold through instinct rather than fixed plans. Painting becomes a form of prayerful exploration, a way of expressing deep truths about God and my Christian journey that words alone cannot always hold. As I work, I am drawn to atmosphere — to spaces that feel layered and expansive — because they echo the complexity of faith and the many dimensions of lived experience. My subjects often carry a quiet intensity, aiming to encourage resilience and reveal grace under pressure. I paint while listening to worship music, creating in a posture of openness and trust. Often, the full meaning of a work is only revealed to me after it is finished, as I sit with it in reflection. In those moments, I recognise how God has been speaking through the process itself, gently unfolding significance in His own time.

Artist Statement

The sea returns again and again in my work, carrying a depth of meaning that mirrors the many layers of my life and my faith journey. Its shifting colours draw me in — at once beautiful, mysterious, and endlessly changing — reflecting moments of clarity and uncertainty alike. The sea holds both stillness and movement, inviting contemplation while reminding me that nothing remains static.

The energy of the waves speaks of life’s turbulence, those moments that feel frightening and overwhelming. The small bird within the painting embodies that vulnerability, standing fragile against the vastness around it. Yet within this tension lies trust: God’s promise to be present, even when the waves rise high. Though the sea feels immense and threatening, I hold onto the assurance that I am not abandoned, and that I am kept safe within His care.

How it fits into contest

Isaiah 43:2 speaks directly into the heart of this painting: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you… When you walk through the sea, you shall not be overwhelmed.” This verse does not promise the absence of deep waters, but the presence of God within them. That truth shapes both my faith journey and the visual language of this work.

The sea in the painting represents life in all its complexity — beautiful, powerful, and often unpredictable. Its shifting colours echo emotional and spiritual seasons, moments of peace alongside times of confusion and doubt. The rising waves speak of experiences that feel overwhelming, when circumstances threaten to pull us under and fear takes hold. Rather than portraying calm waters, I wanted to honour the reality that faith is often lived within turbulence, not outside of it.

The small bird embodies vulnerability and fragility in the face of such vastness. It stands for the human soul — my own — navigating forces far greater than itself. Yet its presence is not one of despair. Rooted in Isaiah 43:2, the painting holds onto the promise that even when the waters rise, we are not abandoned. God does not remove the sea, but He meets us in it, steadying, sustaining, and carrying us through.

This work is a testimony of trust: that no matter how deep or frightening the waters become, God’s presence remains constant, and His promise ensures that we are held, not overcome.
