Artist Statement

My practice works with soil as a living material, a site of memory, vulnerability, and quiet resilience. Soil carries the traces of time: compression, erosion, rupture, and accumulation. It records the pressure of the world, just as the human spirit silently endures its own battles, often fragile, fractured, and seemingly on the verge of collapse, yet still alive and moving forward.

In this work, I explore the presence of inner faith, not only in a religious sense, but also as an elemental force that sustains us. It is the faith that allows us to inhabit our wounds, live with uncertainty, and keep moving despite the weight of loss or change. The materials I use are allowed to crack, shrink, distort, and transform, revealing that instability is not a sign of failure, but a space where strength, hope, and spiritual momentum can emerge.

“Momentum” becomes more than a physical force; it is the unseen motion of the inner spirit. It is the subtle yet persistent movement within the human condition, a reminder that even in fragility, something powerful continues to live, breathe, and carry us forward.

How it fits into contest

For me, Hebrews 11:1 speaks about a faith that moves, breathes, and continues to live within us, even when the world feels uncertain. This “inner faith in motion” is what my work seeks to embody.

Hebrews 11:1 states:
“Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

This passage speaks about faith as something deeply interior and an unseen certainty that moves, sustains, and carries human life forward, even when clarity and answers are not yet visible. Faith here is not static; it is active, living, and quietly at work within us. This directly resonates with my artwork, Momentum (Inner Faith in Motion), which explores faith as an inner spiritual force in continuous motion.

The fragile materials in my work, shifting surfaces, cracks, compression, and transformation, reflect the uncertainties, pressures, and emotional landscapes of human experience. Yet the form remains present; it holds together, survives, and keeps existing. This mirrors the message of Hebrews 11:1: even when we cannot see the outcome, faith continues to move within us. It breathes, endures, and sustains hope.

For me, faith is an inner momentum, subtle but powerful. It is the unseen motion of the spirit that lives inside fragility. It is what allows us to remain grounded amid uncertainty, to keep going when life feels heavy, and to believe in what cannot yet be seen. My work seeks to embody this “inner faith in motion,” a quiet spiritual force that continues to live, move, and carry us forward through time, vulnerability, and transformation.
