"Faith Can Move Mountains" is an original acrylic piece that depicts events in Ephesians 6:10-20 and several other scriptures. The majority of my process consisted of research in the Bible. I wanted my piece to be a platform for heavy and accurate symbolism; thus, I read verses in Genesis, Exodus, Revelation, Ezekiel, Ephesians, and many more. I used small symbols such as, a lion's head, chariots, snakes, the 12 tribe's breastplate, lambs, fire, and a full moon. I added these symbols subtlety because I wanted my audience to constantly find parts in my work that connected them to the Bible in hopes that it would inspire them to read the verses. A motto that I live by is that I want to enter and leave a space with a positive impact or a sense of progression. This process fits my canon of work because, whether it has a biblical concept or not, I enjoy utilizing symbolism with the intention of people leaving my space having learned something new or having gained a positive inspiration from my work.
My work fits into the contest topic because it contains accurate content from the Ephesians 6:10-20 verse as well as many other verses. My piece is a platform for heavy symbolism; thus, I read verses in Genesis, Exodus, Revelation, Ezekiel, Ephesians, and many more. I used small symbols such as, a lion's head, chariots, snakes, the 12 tribe's breastplate, lambs, fire, and a full moon. In the Ephesians verse, it speaks of the preparing for battle. I included an angel soldier in armor as the most direct part of the piece. However, all of the other symbols previously mentioned were included in the piece to connect with the concept of preparing for a spiritual battle. For example, the lamb represents Christ, the fire and the snake represents our opposition in the spiritual battle, and the chariot represents our savior in the "final days". All in all, I used verses from various places in the Bible that connect to the Ephesians verse to create a piece that will provoke people to think deeper and make those multifaceted connections.
