Artist bio

Hello, my name is Génesis Zamora Baltodano, I am eighteen years old and I am from Nicaragua. I do not consider myself a professional artist, but I can say that I love being able to express my ideas and feelings through art, but above all I like to make known what Jesus puts in my heart through my drawings. In the future I hope to study cinematography because I want to make Christ known, I want to take the news of the gospel everywhere, whether it be through a movie, documentaries or by making the testimonies of some believers known. I also hope to continue developing my talent in art and continuing serving God in this way.

Artist Statement

I always like to make drawings in black and white, I rarely use so much color in my paintings and this is the first time that I use everything in the same drawing. In the first part of the drawing I used a pencil to blur the background and give a feeling of being in a place of darkness. To make the hands, the costumed characters, the snake and the tree, I used a fine point drawing pen. To make the second part of the drawing I used red, pink, fuchsia, yellow and orange colored pencils, layering one another to give the effect of a sunset. To make the cloud I used a white blur pencil. To make the cusp and the sea I used green, yellow, brown and light blue pencils. I made the character with the armor using gray, red, black, blue, brown and skin color pens. I left Jesus`s clothes and hair blank,I surrounded Him with a yellow pencil to give the effect of light. His face and hands are covered by a skin-colored pencil and His figured is traced with a black pen.

How it fits into contest

Maybe when we wake up every morning we are not in a physical battlefield, nobody points a gun at us and we are not running to save our lives however every day we face temptations, we struggle, we have problems and many situations that make us want to surrender. These things are something call The Spiritual Battle in which we must deal with every day but not against blood and flesh, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this century, against spiritual guests in the celestial regions ( Ephesians 6:12).
My drawing is divided into two parts that represent the Spiritual battle. In the first part you can see a colorless image, this is the valley of shadow and death that we have to go through to reach our goal. This is where all the challenges are triggered and make difficult for us to move forward. I drew hands, which mean temptations - all those sins we were once slaves of, those things that incite us to sin so that we stray from the good path. Then I drew a snake that represents the lies that the enemy uses to make us fall like when he lied Eve in the beginning to be tempted (Genesis 3: 1). The costumed characters represent sin - since sin is always disguised as something pleasing to the eye and harmless, something pleasant for our fleshly desires (Genesis 3: 6), but it is really an illusion to not realize that everything that sin offers ends in destruction. Finally, in this part of the drawing we can observe a dry tree, this represents our condition when we are not with Christ. When we live pleasing our fleshly nature we are like an fruitless tree whose purpose is to be cut down and thrown into the fire.
In contrast, the second part of the drawing is very colorful and bright because Jesus is there. He is the light of the world, the light that guides us to turn away from darkness and give us light of life (John 8:12). It is hard to follow this light but the way to emerge victorious from that valley of shadow and death is to be firm in our faith, strengthening ourselves in the Lord and in the power of his strength, dressing us with His armor (Ephesians 6:10-11). For this reason in This part of the drawing we can see a person in armor representing what is described in Ephesians 6: 10-20. We must put on the armor of God, gird our loins with truth and dress with the breastplate of justice, wear our feet with sandals with the readiness of the gospel of peace, take the shield of salvation and the sword of the spirit that is the word of God. Thus we will be able to press on towards the goal, to the supreme call of God in Christ Jesus ( Philippians 3: 4)
