This piece is essentially inspired by Ephesians 6:10-20, made out of oil, acrylic, earl grey, crushed oil pastels, extra virgin olive oil, and graphite on 60x50cm canvas.
The ashy blue and green tones picture the wicked principalities, powers, rulers, and hosts in the spiritual realm whom we are to battle against as per Ephesians 6:12. Our world was divided according to the number of the evil/fallen angels.
Deuteronomy 32:8 ESV - 'When the Most High gave to the nations their inheritance, when he divided mankind, he fixed the borders of the peoples according to the number of the sons of God.'
Sons of God as in the Dead Sea Scrolls means angels of God in Greek version. No wonder every part of this world has its own belief of a presence of evil spirits.
Moreover, wickedness could also mean evil deeds, adultery, racism, and all other worldliness that is happening among the modern culture.
We are all created beings, we are made of flesh and blood, these are represented by the dark red and fleshy tones. Our actual battle is not against our fellow beings, but those evil powers. Since we are fighting against intangible creatures, we cannot face this battle ourselves, we need spiritual reinforcement which comes from the Heaven.
The Holy Spirit intervenes the battle to equip us in facing this warfare. This spiritual intervention is represented by the white color between the red and the brown tones that I blended to express unity, our union with The Lord. Because God lives in us and we are in Him, we are able to overcome wickedness.
The image of the whole armor of God is reflected through few shapes that I painted vaguely. This warfare is spiritual, and so are our weapons. The armor of God is what makes us stand tall and strong as symbolized by the bold red line.
My work speaks much of the aspects and atmosphere as in Ephesians 6:10-20. I aim to deliver a perspective of what a spiritual battle looks like between tangible and intangible creations, and how God equip us with all the weapons to overcome it all.
The Holy Spirit - the main influence and support.
