This digital painting shows a depiction of Adam with the fish in the sea. One day a chid-like question came to my mind and I thought, 'How did Adam name all the fish in the sea?' and this image came to my head of all fish large and small coming to play with him and be named by him. I used references of large whales, fish in the sea, scuba divers and how they move and look in water. I even used a reference of Aquaman lol. I wanted the illustration to show the relationship Adam had with the fish in the sea because God gave him dominion over them. This illustration is part of a series I am currently creating about the history of creation in Genesis. This illustration was painted in procreate using an oil painting brush.
Genesis 1:26 ESV - Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
This was the scripture that sparked my imagination. I imagine that Adam was God-like, with his size, stature, and abilities. We watch Marvel and DC movies and are in awe of the powers these superheroes have, but Adam was formed by God himself! (Genesis 2:7, Luke 3:38). My superhero imagination can run away with me but can you imagine what he was able to do?! I digress lol.
I illustrated Adam being surrounded by light, because he was always in the presence of God, just like how Moses' face shone when he was in the presence of God (Exodus 34:30). I think Adam and Eve didn't realize they were were naked until they ate the fruit because they were clothed in God's loving light and warmth, His righteousness, and in His presence. But this was God's original design, for us to be made in His image, after His likeness and to have dominion, not over each other, but of what He originally blessed us with. It must have been important to God because He mentions it twice in Genesis 1:26 and again in Genesis 1:28.
