This was a tree on the shore at Matunuck Beach in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. It clung to a shelf of land near the beach for many years. It was lost in the winter storms of 2021, washed out to sea. This photo was taken on a stormy day not long before its loss.
This tree had been observed by me for years. I have actually photographed it several times. It always stood as resiliency, standing against the storm. It's a tree that stood against countless storms nestled among the rosa rugosa, clinging on the edge of land. No matter the storm, it stood its ground.

I am co-owner with my wife, Jennifer, of Made From RI (our primary business, www.MadeFromRI.com) which features Rhode Island made items by various forms of manufacture as well as artists and artisans of the state.
Made From RI Gallery (www.MadeFromRIGallery.com) is an outgrowth of Made From RI. We started employing the art and photographic techniques of my grandfather (Adolph Wahl, who was head of Art and Photography at Providence Lithograph Co. as well as a general artist, calligrapher and engrosser). The venture took on its own life and we are growing this aspect rapidly.
