I create my art by cutting and piecing fabrics that I have previously handwoven on my Gilmore floor loom. My handwoven, pieced, formed, and embellished vessels have “feet” of clay. They are tenderly made to suggest our human experience, one of brokenness and weakness, yet beloved, strengthened, and redeemed by God.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,…” (Ephesians 6:10-11)
This small vessel with its big brass buttons stands firmly on its clay feet. Yet, it has no strength of its own, just as we are small and weak. Our strength is in the Lord and in His mighty power. The transparent and translucent armor that surrounds and protects the vessel symbolizes the armor of God is not for a battle against “flesh and blood.”
