Artist bio

In my art, my passion is to create something that speaks to the quiet spaces in the hearts of those who view it. To be able to provoke thought in the truth that resonates to where you are at that moment in time. A message of hope, truth, love, peace, and strength that one can feel an the knowing that your enough. God rebirthed my love of being an artist, the artist I have been since I was a little girl. I have been through a lot in my life growing up being bullied and not heard. Having a sexual experience at 17 and becoming pregnant. I hid that secret with my dear life until 2 weeks away from birth. The hiding brought me down a path I had no idea of the consequences that have shaped my life for years. Life continued to be very challenging for me, feeling alone and fearful and hard to cope. Wanting to live and disappear at the same time. Years went by... I got married and I raised two beautiful children, lost a husband to heart disease and began the journey of being a single mom of 2 young beautiful boys, who are now amazing men. I also recently met the little baby boy I gave up for adoption so long ago and met him and his beautiful family. I loved and lost and thru it all God began to continue to unravel the lies and continued the restoration of who I am, A Beloved child of God. I recently finished up a series of 7 crosses that reflect all that I know to be true in my life. I am submitting one of these crosses. The series started with the idea of the cross being our shield. Standing in the promise’s of the cross and taking up the shield of faith to dismantle the lies and live, as God desires for us. “In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one”. Eph-6:16 Creating and fixing my eyes on what is my foundation. My hope is that my art brings you more of the same. Creating art with a message of hope I walk in Restoration, renewal and rest and that is what my art is about.... “For in him we live and move and have our being” Acts 17:28 Pamela has been exhibiting artist for the past 35+ years. With her background in photography, she draws on that strong sense of design and composition. She is able to use that strength in creating her mixed media art. Pamela uses all kinds of found objects, whether it be a rusted piece of metal or a piece of birch bark just shed from its tree. She also finds inspiration from tattered bibles, hymnals, old ephemera, German scrap, reused coffee filters, vintage journals and things that she finds in her travels. The intimate choices of her color palette are subtle hues of browns, tans, greens, whites and pops of color. The process of incorporating these materials with the mix of paint, in developing new layers of meaning that form the mixed media message.

Rise Up Beautiful One

Mixed media on cradled board, 16” × 16”

Rise Up Beautiful One evokes a sense of quiet strength and transformation. The central figure—a stylized black horse adorned with diamond patterns—stands firm amidst a textured background of layered shapes, marks, and subtle collage elements. Sprouting from its back are delicate, dreamlike feathers, symbolizing hope, resilience, and the beauty of becoming.

The contrast between the grounded form of the horse and the ethereal qualities of the feathers suggests rising above struggle, stepping into identity, and awakening to one’s inherent worth and light. The diamond forms, created under intense pressure, represent clarity, inner strength, and the brilliance that emerges when one embraces their true nature.

The work unfolds through an intuitive, layered process—built slowly through mark-making, erasure, and reworking—allowing the image to emerge rather than be forced. Each layer holds traces of choice and revision, reflecting the lived experience of becoming itself.

This piece holds space for the sacred process of becoming—where strength is renewed and light is revealed through trust rather than force.

How it fits into contest

Rise Up Beautiful One is grounded in two passages from Isaiah that speak directly to the visual language of the work. Isaiah 60:1—“Arise, shine, for your light has come”—is reflected in the moment of awakening within the piece, where identity and worth emerge from layered darkness into quiet radiance. Isaiah 40:31, which speaks of renewed strength and soaring on wings, is embodied through the feathered forms that rise from the horse’s back, symbolizing hope, endurance, and spiritual lift. Together, these scriptures move through the work as both foundation and invitation—calling the viewer to rise, to trust the process of becoming, and to step into the light already present within.
