I created this piece using markers and ink on bristol board. Before I completed the final version, I drew several rough sketches with different ideas and compositions, then I took some time to think about which to illustrate. I felt this version was the one that needed to be completed.
Drawing this illustration actually was a step into helping me figure out exactly what kind of art I want to make: serious, yet very cartoony images, using a smooth and fluid style with bold colors. And the subject of the spiritual battle is also very important to me; it is something I plan to draw about again and again.
This piece directly illustrates Ephesians 6:12: "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." It shows the invisible battle we face every day, serving as a reminder to be on guard towards the evil forces that are always knocking at the edges of our minds; whether they be feelings, temptations, or demons.
Our battle is always of the mind, and it needs to be communicated to the many people who do not know and do not realize the depths of this important truth. This illustration also shares a major clue into winning the battle: knowing about the evil around you, and then not letting it in.
"Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." Ephesians 6:13.
