Most of my work revolves around portraiture--for this piece, I used a photo reference for the model and manipulated different colors in photoshop to see what would look good for a painting. In this piece, I chose to use more surreal colors and metallic gold to emphasize 'God's light' shining down on the subject. I wanted the figure to be realistic while experiencing something other-worldly.
In this piece, the subject is looking upward while light is shining down on her. In Ephesians 6:10-20, it states "put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." The feeling I want my piece to emulate is that of hope or new wakening: someone who is looking up and allowing the light of God to cast upon her and give her strength. By letting a new faith wash over her, she is putting on the armor of God to stand her ground and live a life of strength. She is vulnerable, but looking hopeful in the light of her newfound strength.
