This work in acrylics on canvas was created in recent weeks in response to the prompt of this Engage Art competition (Ephesians 6:10-20). A simple depiction of the Kentucky Derby with a large video screen being used as a scoreboard referencing the place of the horses in the race. Each of the seven deadly sins is the name of a horse in the race, with colors of each horse's attire being carefully chosen to coordinate with the thought / meaning behind the sin itself.
This piece depicts an ordinary jockey protected by the armor of God winning THE race in this life - separating himself from the evils & temptations of sin. The setting is the famous Churchill Downs and home of the annual Kentucky Derby. The follower of Christ is protected in His armor throughout and ultimately winning as shown on the scoreboard. The congregation sees the seven deadly sins as competing horses in constant pursuit but not keeping up, with "sloth" being too lazy & slow to be captured in the frame.
This painting was created in its entirety by myself, Chris Long
Type of work: a mass produced copy
