Artist Statement

The artwork is created with ink and watercolor on paper. I choose to keep the artwork simple with mostly line-making and minimal color choice. I want the meaning to speak bolder than my work. There are a few iconography visuals. The hands represent the relationship between God the Father and us as His children. The red seal - His spirit and Christ's blood given to us. The yellow- His power given to us when we hold to His hand.

How it fits into contest

"In the power of His might" was inspired by many sources which I will reference below. Verse 10 of Ephisians "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might" was my first inspiration.
The work was also inspired by a sermon by Loue Giglio and by Ravi'z Zacharias favorite verse John 14:19 "..Because I live, you will live also."

The adult hand represents God's hand and the little hand represents God's children's hand. The seal is referenced by the verse "who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee." 2 Corinthians 1:22

The seal therefore is God's Spirit in us, the cross on the seal is a represents Jesus and the redness of the seal is reference of being redeemed by His blood. The yellow watercolor marks depicts the power of God given to us through His Spirit when we abide in Him. Through His spirit we can win battles.

When we are asked to be be strong in the Lord, we are asked to trust in His power which will manifest through us.
Paul starts with the words " Finally, my brethren, be strong IN THE LORD and in the POWER OF HIS MIGHT" - How do we have His power? We must remain in Him. Jesus emphasizes this in John 15:4,5 "Remain in me, and I will remain in you. .. for without Me, you can do nothing". Nothing!

As God's children, it is only in God's power that we can fight, win and stand! Put on God and He will fight for you.

God is these: and gives us these- Through His Spirit
Truth- Ephesians 6:14a
Righteousness- Ephesians 6:14b
Zeal - Ephesians 6:15
Faith- Ephesians 6:16
Salvation- Ephesians 6:17a
Word of God- Ephesians 6:17b
Prayer -Ephesians 6:18

We boast in God- We win through Him for His Glory. The battle is the Lord's- We just have to be still, and let Him work through us! He fights for us, He wins the battles!! For without Him we can do nothing !

(Other references)
The old testament is in many ways the mirror of the new. The physical battles the Isrealites had to fight are a visual representation of our spiritual battles.
And what do we learn from them? That the Isrealites could not win battles without God's help. In fact, He was the only one that gave them victory. When they did not ask God for help,
when they did not trust God, they lost the battles.

A few verses which show the implication of God in battles. His power, help and strength helped these powerless people win and conquer giants, and enemies.

2 Chronicles 20:15 - He said, “Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
Exodus: 14:14 - The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.
Deuteronomy 3:22 - You must not fear them, for the Lord your God Himself fights for you.
Hosea 1:7 -But I will show love to the people of Judah. I will free them from their enemies—not with weapons and armies or horses and charioteers, but BY MY POWER AS THE LORD THEIR GOD.”
Psalms 91:2 - This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.
Psalms 35:1 O Lord, oppose those who oppose me. Fight those who fight against me.
Psalms 3:3 -But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5- For the weapons of our warfare are not [a]carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ
Psalm 31:5 Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.
