Artist Statement

My drawing is on standard 14 inch by 17 inch drawing paper. The image measures 10 inches by 13 inches. I created it using pencil and colored pencils. The drawing is meant to illustrate the presence of evil in our daily lives, and the truth of Gods word protecting us from evil through faith.

How it fits into contest

The roots in the illustration represent the foundation, the foothold that Satan attempts to establish within us through lies and deception that we must defend against. Ephesians 4:27- And do not give the devil a foothold. John 8:44- When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
The trunk represents the word of God the Father. Our sole weapon against the devil’s schemes, standing firm between us and evil. Ephesians 6:13- Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may stand your ground. Ephesians 6:17- Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God.
Finally, the tree top represents us. All of us! We who are allowed to grow spiritually, while seeking to better understand Gods word and his plan for us. And through his grace, repair and heal even the most damaged foundation within us. James 4:7- Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Thessalonians 2:16- May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.
