Artist bio

I have only recently begun my journey as an artist and I am sure my style will continue to grow and evolve over the coming years. Our human connection with nature and animals is something that has always consumed and inspired me. My art, as a way of keeping nature close to my heart, is always done on pieces of wood. Birch, basswood, walnut, pine, and many more, have always been the shining stars of my wood burnings. The piece of wood in and of itself is just as important as the drawing burned into it. Most often, the piece of wood inspires the burning upon it. My work is centered around the calling of nature, our companionship with animals, and our deepest desires to connect with the world around us. My hope is to inspire others to take a moment and reflect on how we are all sewn together through this beautiful world full infinite forms of life. I am 24, from Pittsburgh PA, and I am on a spiritual journey to better myself. Art helps me form connections with myself and with others and always inspires me to find joy and peace within.

Artist Statement

The Fight For Inner Peace is a larger artwork that took one week to complete. It fits in perfectly with the work I create on a daily basis. My work is centered around the calling of nature, our companionship with animals, and our deepest desires to connect with the world around us. My hope is to inspire others to take a moment and reflect on how we are all sewn together through this beautiful world full infinite forms of life. This artwork focuses on our inner balance of peace, truth, and righteousness. As all of my work, this piece is also done on live edge basswood to bring in one more element of life. I first drew in pencil on the wood to get a rough sketch of my idea down. I then let my hands and burner do the rest of the work in bringing this piece to life.

How it fits into contest

This is a piece which reflects upon the moments of inner peace, truth, and righteousness along the never ending spiritual battle that rages within. It is about recognizing that your spiritual journey is one that starts within yourself. The battle you fight within is where you will find your own truth and peace. I believe that connecting with nature and the life around us will help lead us to these times of feeling truth and light flow throughout our bodies. Nature has a balance of dark and light that perfectly reflects our battles with good and evil. Even though your life will have both darkness and light, good and evil, it does not mean there is anything wrong with you. When you are going through times of spiritual struggles, take a moment to reflect within. Connect with the nature around you to find your inner strength, peace, and truth.
