Artist Statement

My overall artistic practice can be divided into two general categories: observational, and the contemplation of beliefs and values. My main objectives in painting are: observation, contemplation, meditation and prayer.

How it fits into contest

I’m interested in belief and value systems (i.e., philosophy, psychology, religion, and mythology), and the study of inherited truths. Specifically, how we create our own realities every day through the adoption of prescribed precepts and unquestioned thoughts we entertain as the truth. One part of that is Soteriology, the study of religious doctrines of salvation. Comparing various ideas about what salvation is and how it is obtained through a particular religion. One definition of salvation is the deliverance from sin or evil.

This painting reflects the idea that our salvation from evil or sin is about personal accountability. If we want order and peace in the world, we should look to first achieve peace or psychological order within.
