Artist bio

Rachel Berkowitz (b. 1993) lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Born in 1993 in Columbus, Ohio, and raised in London, Rachel Berkowitz received her BA in Fine Arts from the UCLA School of Art and Architecture in 2016. Her practice concentrates on social interactions within different spaces, and includes painting, printmaking and photography. Previously, she has exhibited in group shows and at special events in Los Angeles, London and Japan.

Wishful Thinking,
Oil on canvas, 60” x 48”

“Wishful Thinking” allows the mind to wander. The enticing landscape draws in the viewer to a surreal world of beautiful natural elements. The flora and fauna allude to symbols of fate and elements of risk and good luck. The natural elements signify spirituality, completeness, rebirth and new beginnings. This painting is meditative, and should promote deep thought and internal awareness.

How it fits into contest

This artwork is about choosing the right path and fighting for what you are manifesting. The painting is full of spiritual omens and symbols that allude to personal choices, decision-making and fate. Looking inwards, listening to your spirit guides are key factors when deciphering this painting.
