Flames and The Cross
The scripture from Ephesians 6:10-12 known widely as the “Armor of God” passage is represented in this painting “Flames and The Cross”. As we journey through this life all must decide to follow the path to salvation or let ourselves be taken by the devil and destruction.
For those choosing salvation, we are given tools by God to protect ourselves against evil. The wall at the bottom of the painting doubles as a belt of truth and the foundation wall for the Bible shown. The Bible is the foundation containing truths for Christian beliefs and is the sword of the spirit. The gate shown at the front of the flames is the entrance to the evil world where evil makes its home and continually attacks the world with the flames representing the destruction. The white winged icon represents the good spirit world which comes to the aid of those that pray. The gold wings representing reflecting of flames as it closes in on evil. The outreached hands significance is twofold. The hands are shown closing in on the emerald stone which signifies the breastplate of righteousness which we endeavor to hold on to what is good and moral by opening the gate doors in the emerald entering into the Bible presence. They also reach up in prayer to the cross at the top believing with the shield of faith (the emerald also presented as a shield) that God created earth and sent his son to die for us which has us reaching up for the helmet of salvation. The black and blue background behind the cross is behind the Bible indicating the darkness of the world without God’s salvation. Noting that the light of the cross blocks out the darkness.
