I silent film, visualizing an original poem written by my sister that goes “there once was a Predestined Oaf. She never did anything right. She always did everything wrong. When buttering her toast in the morning, it often fell to the ground. It always landed buttered side down. It never landed buttered side up. One day in frustration she cried ‘o Lord, give me a sign that you care. A sign that I’ll recognize.’ Next morning while buttering her toast, it slipped and fell to the floor. I landed buttered side up. This had never happened before. ‘A sign, a sign’ she cried. To which the Lord replied ‘you buttered the wrong side.” I added a watercolor filter to live action footage to give it a kind of animation look and feel. This is an experimental film for me where I’m trying to translate what I see when I hear or read the poem my sister wrote, translating someone else’s work into a film. I usually use ideas that completely originate in my head. I’m also experimenting whith animation and crossing animation and live action.
A person struggling with her relationship with God in dealing with her daily breakfast toast regimen.
