Jesus Is My Footgear

Medium/Genre

Animated

Artist Statement

This animation is a bible study about the gospel of peace. Because of Covid-19 our church has been restricted from doing ministry. I decided to do this topic because even though we are restricted from each other we still must spread the gospel.

How it fits into contest

This animation depicts the foot wear for spiritual warfare (Eph. 6:15). We live in a world filled with division (hatred, racism religion etc.) and these demonic barriers keep us from spreading the Gospel to everybody. But as long as we have Jesus as our footgear and remember that His peace is for everyone we will accomplish our mission to spread the Good News.

Jesus Is My Footgear

Intro
In the book of Ephesians chapter six starting at verse fourteen it reads:
14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

To shod your feet is to wear footgear or to be equipped or furnished with a shoe and our footgear is God giving us the motivation we need to spread the good news. To be prepared is to be ready beforehand, as a state of readiness (like a readiness for war). So if we are in spiritual warfare, how can we have peace? This peace that the Bible speaks of is not worldly peace, but the True Peace that comes from God through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Our adversary the devil wants us to think that telling others about this True Peace from God is a useless waste of time. That the mission and the negative reactions are too much for us to take. But the peace of God is having His presence in a world filled with chaos, destruction and warfare. Satan’s goal is to not only stop us from telling others about this peace, but he also makes us think that we don’t have peace with God. But the Bible says that we do have peace with God (Rom 5:1) and since we have this peace we are commanded to tell others as well.

History of Sandals
Now we all wear different types of shoes but in biblical times people often wore sandals. Most shoes back then consisted of soft leather but sandals were cut or made from hard leather. The reason for that is because they were worn for rugged wear; like journeying through the desert, walking up a mountain or simply walking from town to town. The soles were derived from palm tree bark, wood or cane. They were strapped to the feet with thongs or shoe latchets and nails were used to fasten the soles and the leather together.

So now that we have this ancient armory and footgear, what does the Gospel of Peace actually do? How does it aid in spiritual warfare? And what super powers lay hidden in these shoes?

The Gospel of Peace
(1.) Christ is our Peace (Ephesians 2:14). And when I say He is our peace I mean He is our footwear. ( 2.) This footwear has the ability or power to break down the middle wall of separation; You know that thing that stands between you and others whether its race, religion, age, appearance, intelligence, worldly or economic status. (3.) This footwear has the ability to put to death or abolish the enmity between us and God. Not only does it put to death the enmity between us and God but the enmity or hatred between us and each other as well (Ephesians 2:15). Last but not least this footwear has the ability or power to reconcile us to God in one body through the cross (Ephesians 2:16). Therefore, we don’t have to hate people who are living in sin, neither do we have to stay away from them. For if we did how would they ever be able to know the love of God? And how would they ever be able to turn away from sin if we don’t share this good news? A lot of times we think that these walls or barriers we build are from God and they are protecting us. But these walls or not protecting us and neither do they come from God. They come from Satan and his rulers of darkness; built to keep us away from each other and away from God.

Conclusion
Therefore my brothers and sisters having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace: “ Whatever city or town you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there till you go out. And when you go into a household, greet it. If the household is worthy, let your peace come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. (Matthew 10:11-14)

Back then, devout Jews would shake the dust off their feet whenever they left Gentile cities. It signified their separation from them. But we don’t have to act like them neither do we have to be separated no more. Christ has given us the ability/footgear that we need to spread this Good News to people all over the world. So whenever you enter a house and they accept the Good News, bless it; If they don’t, then shake the dust from your feet; not to be pious or devoutly religious but to show that they are making a bad choice by rejecting Christ and that this Good News might not present itself to them again.

Now consider what I say and may the Lord give you understanding in all this. May God bless you all and I hope you all have a wonderful day.
