Artist bio

My name is Alexandrea Hagans. I am 22 years old. I reside in Long Island, New York. I was born and raised in the church. I've been to various churches with different affiliations. As I began to grow in Christ, I had to learn that the church isn't a necessity in starting my relationship with God. I was religious and lost.  Therefore, I had to come to a place in my life where I needed to submit myself to Christ and working through the process of becoming a true believer of God. In 2016 - 2017, after many years of hypocrisy , I answered God's call and start to seek his will for my life. There has been bumps, detours, and backsliding but God will continue to do the good work in me until completion. I believe God has gifted me with various artistic/creative attributes. In 2018, I have tapped into a new found love for painting. It became my outlet when I was battling mentally. My paintings have progressed into a dedication to God and his word. He is our Creator. Therefore, He is in everything and everyone. Additionally, we are His masterpieces so we have the responsibility to let people know who he is, who we are in him, and what his word says. No matter what it takes. Sometimes it just as simple as words but sometimes words can't create the visualization in order to receive the revelation. So I choose to follow my Creator's footsteps and give Him glory in art.

Artist Statement

I believe that as we grow in our relationship with God, we have the access through the Holy spirit to hear God. Therefore, I believe that God gave me the vision for this art piece and used me as a vessel to execute it. As God gave me the vision, I wanted it to be big enough to attract curious minds. So the canvas of my choice was a piece of plywood. The background of this piece was created by a technique called acrylic pouring. Specifically, this wonderful fluid painting is called dutch pour. Acrylic paint's consistency can be quite thick so I had to thin it out in order for it to be able to spread across the canvas. Once the paint becomes more fluid, you can maneuver the canvas around to create an effect. Then I used a hair dyer to manipulate the colors to mesh together. Lastly, the most fun part of this piece was creating the cross. I used various old CDs around my household to create this beautiful mosaic of the cross. I had to cut them in to pieces in order to break them. Also, I used a mirror to add to it. There we spaces between the pieces of CD so I used the little left over pieces of CD with glitter to fill them. Around the border of this piece is the acronym for Yahweh which is YHWH.

How it fits into contest

One of God's name is Yahweh or Jehovah which means Lord. This name talks about his authority, lordship, and sovereignty. How he is a self existent God. He is completely whole within himself, and He is eternal. He has always existed, and He always will. He is the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega. His acronym being around the border of the painting has significance to how everything inside of it was created by him. He is our creator. This means that we have been graced to walk in the calling that he has destined for us ( 1 John 5:4-5 & Ephesians 6:10).
The submerging blue and silver represents the power of God. The power of God among the earth such as the waters, the sky, the heavens, and the earth. The way the white and black dances around the background of the painting represents the battle of light and darkness stated in Ephesians 5 and John 10:10. The constant battle between flesh and spirit stated in 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 and Ephesians 6:12. The old life and new life in Christ stated in Romans 6:6 and Ephesians 4:20-22.
Lastly is the wonderful mosaic of the cross and the pieces of a mirror. The cross represent Jesus Christ. The armor of God is one of the many spiritual blessing God has given to us. The only way we was able to obtain this blessing was through receiving salvation from the cross of Jesus Christ. The armor of God is a call to God's people to live in the light of our heavenly calling in Jesus Christ. Our position or our defaulted mechanism from our creation is designed for us to win. We were meant to walk in victory. We walk in victory by putting on the armor of God from Ephesians 6:10-20.
The question is do you know who you are ? The pieces of the mirror represent the reflection we need to take through the filter of the cross. Do you know that you are a co heir to kingdom of God? Do you know that you have the power of sin and death like Jesus ? Do you know that you were made to win and overcome? In Psalms 91:1-6 is our confidence in God during our battles. Jesus was our example so we need to follow in his footsteps to find all that we need which is dependent on God. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:10 ," By the grace of God I am that I am." He knew who he was because he knew his position under the authority of the Great I Am! Who is Yahweh, Our God!
Walk in your victory. The battle is already won!
