Kory Holmes is a veteran public school educator who is certified in the areas of math, science, agriculture, and social studies ranging from 2nd grade to college-prep courses for the past 22 years. As an educator, Kory Holmes sponsored a video production club for students to inspire creativity and broadcast journalism training. This novice attempt led Kory to explore the world of video production outside of the classroom for the next nine years where he learned the art of editing, cinematography, sound, lighting, script-writing, and so much more. He currently operates the 30 foot jib for Healing Place Church and assists in producing a TV show for the East Baton Rouge Parish Fine Arts department. Kory also has experience working with Cox Communications where he operated the field camera for high school Friday night games of the week; special events segments for local television; as well as LSU’s football and basketball radio shows every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (Les Miles Show, Ed Orgeron, Johnny Jones, and Coach Fargas). In addition, Kory produces and directs talk shows, commercials, short films, music videos, wedding cinematography, and live events. He has had the privilege of working with R&B singers “Tank”, Tyrese, Jodeci, RL, David St. Romain, Star Murphy, Le'Moine Live, Muhammad Ayers reality TV star Mamma Dee, world renowned boxer Floyd Mayweather, and Comedian Melanie Comarcho. He has engineered and worked with tools such as the camera stabilizer, crane operation, ‘Crane lifter' rotating base crane, and graphic/motion design software created by Adobe such as After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere CS7, etc. His long term goal is to direct a feature film one day and produce a Christian episodic series that inspires people to open their hearts to God. Ashley Touchet is a Actress from Lafayette Louisiana. Her background includes theater and background work. When Ashley was young she was constantly escaping into dress up games and make believe. She always thought it would be amazing if such a job existed one day after buying a DVD she found the behind the scenes option and saw how a movie was made and that was it for her! A choice was made from a young age! Her goal is to make a living doing what she loves and diving into different characters and worlds. When not pursuing acting Ashley is self publishing books writing music or working on her food blog You might even run into her at the local hospital where she works as a Cardiac Telemetry tech. Ashley is big into volunteer work mainly focusing on children’s groups like boys and girls club of America where she believe children are the future and deserve the best role models and opportunities Derrick Kyle is veteran educator in the East Baton Rouge school system where he teaches TV & film to aspiring students grades 6th-8th grade. Derrick has produced several music videos, short films, student series, documentaries, and church events for the past ten years. His number one goal is to produce Christian movies and develop a team of other aspiring film makers to tell real=life stories for the world. Brianna is a 11 year old who loves to dance, sing, watch movies, and now act. While in school she enjoys math and reading fiction stories. There is seldom a time in her life that she is not found laughing and experiencing the fullest of life. Brianna desires to be a nurse like her favorite Aunt in Georgia. Angelina is a 12 year old who enjoys being silly with family, dancing off beat to her favorite tunes, watching Liv and Maddie on TV, and the outdoors with her sister. In the near future Angelina plans to be a doctor to help people survive sicknesses. Maybe even find a cure to cancer.

Artist Statement

This short film is taken from Ephesians 6:10-11. The story is about a young mother who must learn to be strong in the Lord in the midst of navigating through the struggles of life.

How it fits into contest

There is power in trusting in the Mighty God of the universe. No matter the circumstances - God is always there to provide strength and comfort. We must trust and depend on His Mighty power to work in and through us so we can be victorious against the enemy.

Transcript / Lyrics

1.INT. BEDROOM. MORNING
Camera dollies toward a woman sleeping in her bed. She is
having a series of disturbing nightmares.
The Lead actress will narrate the story.
2. Visuals
She is awaken by the distracting noise of her two children.
Narrator:
Another day and I am barely able to move. Not from aches and
pains, but life. Time doesn’t lend itself this morning.
3. She glances at the Bible that rest on her night stand,
but she doesn’t have time to read nor sit at the feet of her
Lord and savior Jesus Christ this chaotic morning.
4. The woman quickly opens her bedroom door to the annoyed
face of her youngest daughter.
YOUNGEST DAUGHTER
(She scoffs at her mother once the
door is opened)
Okay
The mother stares at the youngest daughter for a moment.
The youngest daughter walks away toward the kitchen.
CON’T
5. INT. KITCHEN. MORNING
The mother rushes to prepare breakfast while her daughters
dance around the house trying to complete last minute task
before leaving for the school bus. She can only accept the
chaos and pray it will all end in her head.
Handheld: Camera captures the oldest daughter upstairs in
the bathroom brushing her teeth while the youngest daughter
sits at the kitchen island watching her mother pour cereal
in a bowl.
6. Youngest daughter doesn’t want the frosted mini wheat
cereal and constantly complains about the choice breakfast.
YOUNGEST DAUGHTER
Do I have to eat this?

MOM
Yes
YOUNGEST DAUGHTER
(She looks at the cereal with
disgust)
Isn’t it old people food?
MOM
Just eat it!
7. The mother notices her oldest daughter running downstairs
without her school uniform shirt on.
MOM
(She looks up before speaking)
Uh, no running in the house...and
where is your uniform shirt?
8. The oldest daughter recognizes that she is not wearing
her uniform shirt and walks back upstairs to put it on.
OLDEST DAUGHTER
Oops!
9. The mother becomes aggravated and continues to stare
upstairs toward her oldest daughter before transitioning to
see her children off to school.
CON’T
10. INT. FRONT DOOR ENTRANCE MORNING
Narrator:
My life was never the same when my husband decided to leave
our family. Was it me, the children...? I don’t know. He
just left...I cried until I couldn’t anymore.
11. OS: camera captures the woman holding the front door
open while staring at her daughters walk to their bus stop.
12. CU: camera dollies toward the womans eyes as she
visualizes her husband walk out of her life. One tear drops
from her eyes.
13. WS: camera captures husband walk away to his car.
14. Once the kids leave, the noise stops and she is left
alone. She stands by the front door remembering the day her
husband abandon her at the same front door. It was the last
time she saw him.

Narrator:
I never saw him again... I’m done!
CON’T
15.INT. BEDROOM. MORNING
WS: Camera pans toward the mother becoming more unrestful in
the bed.
MOTHER
(She speaks loudly in her sleep)
Daddy, daddy...don’t leave me
alone...
Narrator:
My dad meant the world to me. I miss his voice through my
journeys...and his smile (She smiles with light laughter).
16.EXT. GRAVEYARD SITE. EVENING
WS: camera captures headstone and the woman embracing her
time with her dad.
17. The mother brings flowers to her dad’s grave. It was the
worst day of her life the day her father past away.
18. She kneels at the foot of the head stone and speaks to
her father as if he is sitting next to her.
19.INT. BEDROOM. MORNING
An audible voice can be heard along with the woman. Her
father speaks with her.
I remember what you use to tell me
daddy. "Be strong in the Lord and
never give up." Thank you for
that...I will never forget it.
Daddy: That’s my baby.
MOTHER
(she speaks calmly in the air)
Daddy, I miss you... I remember the
last words you spoke to me...
CON’T

20. INT. BEDROOM. MORNING
Audio: the sound of the knock is hollow and resonant in the
bedroom.
She is awaken to reality by a soft knock at her bedroom
door.
The mother is aware that it is one of her daughters trying
to get her attention for the millionth time.
MOTHER
Just minute sweetheart.
21.CU: camera captures the woman getting out of bed.
Emphasis on her hands and face.
22. She pauses for a moment to scan the room and slowly
slides to the side of the bed in a sitting position. She
pans her eyes to the Bible that rest on the night stand. The
woman takes a deep breath and reaches for the Bible to read.
She scrolls through the pages until she reaches Ephesians
chapter 6 verse 10-11. She reads it aloud.
WOMAN
Ephesians chapter 6 verse 10-11.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and
in his mighty power. Put on the
full armor of God, so that you can
take your stand against the devil’s
schemes.
23.She smiles to herself. She soon settles down on the
imprinted floor of her knees where she prayed many times
before. She positions herself in prayer and begins to talk
to God.
24. CU: camera dollies toward the woman in prayer.
